Certain moments should never be forgotten. This incredible trip offers something to be remembered forever. We meet and greet one another in Denver, Colorado before heading off to Rocky Mountain National Park. Named the number two outdoor and adventure destination in the world just behind Queenstown, New Zealand this top outdoor and adventure spot will be our home as we acclimatize, get to know one another, and explore this magnificent natural gem.
We head to “Jurassic Park” where we all learn the basics of rock climbing, ropes, knots, and belaying on the best looking rock face in Estes Park. To add a little adrenaline to our travels, we have the chance to challenge ourselves with the epic sky-high Tyrolean Traverse before we head to the Collegiate Peaks. Here, wide U-shaped valleys open onto utterly breathtaking mountain scenery. Dozens of alpine lakes sparkle at the feet of striking rocky cirques and startling, glacier-sculpted high mountain splendor. This area has few rivals.
We move onto the Arkansas River and from here, we can see how time and the elements have shaped the earth. We break out our rafts, and for the next three days, we splash and roll down the first 125 miles of the Arkansas River’s 1,400 mile trip to the Mississippi — a wild ride of pour-overs, standing waves, sharp turns, and narrow chutes that soak us all with exhilaration.
Next we volunteer at Mission:Wolf, a peaceful sanctuary far away from civilization. Here, wolves roam freely, safe from humans. Gazing into their untamed yellow eyes, we are moved with respect. As the sun sets, we fall asleep to the howls of these magnificent creatures. In the morning, we leave inspired.
Our journey ends at the Great Sand Dunes National Monument where we spend the day exploring the monument’s 39 miles of trackless sand and enjoy our last moments sharing a hearty meal and memories as the sunlight paints the peaks above in brilliant shades of red and orange.
