The Cross Island YMCA provides educational, recreational and health and fitness programs for a vast number of communities from Far Rockaway and South Ozone Park to Cambria Heights and Laurelton to Bayside and Flushing and Bellerose. The Cross Island YMCA is part of the YMCA of Greater New York, composed of 22 branches located in all five boroughs with a camping conference center outside New York City.
The YMCA began serving the Eastern Queens community in 1955 through a small program office. In 1966 the Cross Island YMCA facility, which included a swimming pool and full gymnasium, was built. It was expanded in 1986 to add a barrier-free swimming pool and wing.
We Build Strong Kids, Strong Families and Strong Communities…
The Cross Island YMCA provides financial assistance to individuals based on need. These scholarships are made possible by the generosity of donors to our Annual Strong Kids Campaign. In 2010, over $200,000 was raised to help ensure that no one is ever turned away from one of our programs due to inability to pay. In 2011 our goal is to raise over $210,000!
