  • This position is a 16 week full-time position (40 hours per week) at the national office in Phoenix, Arizona from June 4th – August 10th

    The Make-A-Wish internship program is designed for current undergraduate or graduate students who have a goal of being a leader in the non-profit sector. The purpose of the internship program is to help undergraduate and/or graduate students further cultivate their skills through a real-life work experience.

    The Accounting Internship will provide the opportunity to gain exposure to not-for-profit accounting. The intern will work with an accounting team comprised of Accounting Managers, Sr. Accountants, and Accountants to provide accounting services to a portfolio of Make-A-Wish chapters. The intern will assist the accounting team during the month-end close process, processing and reviewing revenue transactions and processing and reviewing expense transactions. The intern may assist with special projects that support initiatives to improve processes and efficiency for the department. Duties will also include administrative support to the Accounting Managers within the Centralized Financial Services (CFS) department of the National Office.

    Required Skills

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Throughout the internship, duties and responsibilities could include:

    • Assisting accounting team with month-end close process, including completing bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and monthly journal entries
    • Reviewing check requests submitted by chapters and reviewing invoices entered into the Financial Edge database
    • Reconciling credit card transactions to supporting documentation and receipts
    • Reviewing gift data placed into the Raiser’s Edge database and posting revenue transactions to the general ledger
    • Assisting with special projects as necessary
    • Performing general administrative duties which support the Centralized Financial Services department

    Students are responsible for their own transportation and housing expenses.

    Required Experience

    Eligibility: The internship program is designed for current undergraduate or graduate students with the goal of being a leader in the non-profit sector. The purpose of the internship program is to help undergraduate and/or graduate students further cultivate their skills through a real-life work experience. Recent college graduates are eligible only for the session immediately following graduation. (December graduates are eligible for Spring Internships, etc.)
