  • POSITION SUMMARY

    The School and Community Partnerships Intern primarily serves as a facilitator for the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s education programs, which integrate current research, best practices, and BADM’s educational philosophy. This includes work with daily on-site and off-site programming for Pre-K to 5th grade students. In addition to facilitation, the School and Community Partnerships Intern will support other aspects of programming including program preparation, data entry, and other duties as assigned.

    The School and Community Partnerships Intern is a part-time, unpaid internship position running from January-May. The work schedule will range from 15 to 32 hours weekly, with a focus on morning hours (from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM). Interns may be eligible for school credit or teaching hours as approved by their college or university.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    Facilitation

    • Set-up and clean-up both on and off-site programming
    • Support facilitation of indoor and outdoor programming
    • Communicate with teachers, students and chaperones during programming
    • Reflect with the team on facilitation and programming
    • Participate in team meetings to support program improvement

    Administrative Duties

    • Enter evaluative data into data management system
    • Support program preparation

    Personal Project

    • In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the intern and supervisor will select a semester-long project to support the work of the School and Community Partnership team, centered around an area of professional interest or growth for the intern

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program (including students preparing to enter a graduate program).
    • Interest in early childhood development, pedagogy, and developmentally appropriate practice required.
    • Experience with children ages 3-10 years strongly preferred.
    • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel, is required.
    • Spanish or Cantonese language skills preferred.
    • Must possess current driver’s license and have reliable access to a car; local travel required.
