    Description

    US library staff provide research and knowledge services to over 100 attorneys across the firm’s seven US offices as well as a team of US qualified lawyers outside the US. The US library team works closely with their counterparts outside the US, particularly the UK library team. The US Library and Knowledge Advisor performs research and manages the print collections, know-how, electronic resources and other library services across the US offices.

    Description of Internship:

    The firm is offering a paid internship for the Winter/Spring Session (January to May 2018). The intern will be supervised by the US Library and Knowledge Advisor and participate in projects and procedures to help organize and document the library’s resources and services to the firm. The US Advisor will provide mentoring and training in the below library functions in which the student can expect to receive practical experience:

    • Print Collection Management
    • Electronic Resource Management
    • Knowledge Management
    • Vendor Relations
    • Research

    Intern is expected to be available for 10 to 15 hours per week between the hours of 9am and 5pm, Monday through Thursday in blocks of no less than 2 hours. Intern will work primarily out of our New Haven, CT office with less than 10% of the time in our New York office.

    Skills and experience required

    Work & Educational Requirements:

    • Applicants must be matriculating in a program offering an MLS/MLIS degree and have completed a minimum of 15 course credits. Students in ALA accredited programs preferred.
    • Candidate must have knowledge and understanding of basic library operations.
    • Familiarity with legal/corporate firms preferred.
    • Consistent accuracy and attention to detail while maintaining a high level of productivity.
    • Proficiency in the use of standard PC applications including Microsoft Office, E-mail and Internet.
    • Strong IT skills and ability to quickly learn new technologies.
    • Solid interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
    • Experienced at using own initiative to find solutions to questions or problems and committed to seeing new projects through to completion.
    • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
    • Ability to operate copy machines and other standard office equipment.
    • Ability to reach with hands and arms, bend, climb, crouch and lift materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
