    To provide a meaningful work experience over a period of 8-13 weeks which is mutually beneficial to the Company and the successful intern candidate. Interns will be assigned a mentor and a project to be completed during their assignment. Interns will perform additional assignments; however, completion of the project will be the primary objective for the work experience.

    Job Requirements
    Primary Project: Assist food safety, quality assurance, operations management with several technical subject matter areas associated with the Lumber Bridge, NC processing plant.

    • Meet the operations, purchasing, quality assurance, shipping, freezer, and accounting teams
    • Review and understand current processes around HACCP documentation verification, tracking, reporting and follow up. Become familiar with SSOPs, SOPs and other QA Procedures and work on projects lending information to update these programs to improve accuracy, accountability, and follow through.
    • Learn and understand the opportunities around foreign materials, and what previous processes have been implemented. Develop audits and trigger indicators preventing FM from entering product flow.
    • Focus on one area that can have a financial impact ““ study short weight purge causes, trends and possible solutions to reduce charge backs and customer deductions.
    • Analyze and process map improvements in the 1st processing areas.
    • Be engaged in the production and quality assurance environments and processes. Shadow quality assurance technicians during hourly rounds to become familiar with process, observe possible gaps and recommend improved practices or check points.
    • Final presentation on improvements at the end of the internship that had an impact and what the intern learned
    • Partner with appropriate personnel throughout the summer to received support, tools, training, and implementation of processes as needed

    Necessary Skills

    • Ability to be adaptable to different cultures and environments quickly
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
    • Fluent in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word
    • Work in a team environment, introduce new concepts, create ideas and be a visionary
    • Positive attitude, willingness to ask questions and learn, and work with the management and hourly workforce
    • Self-motivated and accepting of challenges
