    Job Summary:

    The Office of the Dean is the leading administrative body for the Wake Forest School of Medicine (WFSM) as part of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The Dean’s Office Summer Internship allows and opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student to experience the general operations of an Academic Medical Center and receive an introduction to the School of Medicine, Health System and Wake Forest Innovations. The internship is structured to allow the intern to gain exposure to the medical center through rotations and to manage a project of their own in an area of interest. The Dean’s Office supports any student who is required to complete a summer internship as part of their academic program.

    Education/Experience: Enrollment in undergraduate or graduate school

    Reports To: Associate Director, Faculty Affairs Administration (co-sponsored by the Vice President of Academic Administration and Operations)

    Licensure, Certification and/or Registration: n/a

    Essential Functions:

    1. Complete department rotations in the School of Medicine, Health System and Wake Forest Innovations. Additional rotations may be completed as desired by the intern.

    2. Attend meetings with leadership to become exposed to the process of decision making..

    3. Undertake a minimum of one project to manage with the support of project leadership. The internhip preceptor will attempt to offer projects, as they become available, in an area of interest to the intern.

    4. Lead the organization and analysis of collected program data and present a recommendation at the end of the internship.

    5. To develop in skills of critical and creative thinking and cultivate problem-solving abilities.

    6. Build upon current experiences related to leadership.

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • Demonstrate strong PC skills (i.e. Microsoft Office products)
    • Demonstrate strong quantitative and analytical skills
    • Ability to prioritize and manage projects resulting in timely deliverables
    • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with business partners across departments
    • Ability to take direction and willingness to learn

    Work Environment:

    • Business casual office setting
    • May require occasional face-to-face meetings, conference calls, and other office visits

    Supports the department by completing daily tasks and assigned projects. Provides excellent customer service and promotes teamwork.

    LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Performs a variety of general office activities to support the department.
    • Organizes work activities to ensure completion on time.
    • Processes incoming/outgoing mail.
    • Creates and maintains accurate filing/record system.
    • Resolves problems to improve customer service.

    SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
    Communication skills
    Ability to operate office equipment
    Organizational skills

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    May be required to operate simple machinery and computer terminals.
    Subject to varying climate and temperature.
    Moderate noise level
