    Description:
    The Suffolk County Water Authority is seeking two (2) conscientious under-graduate or graduate level students, with course work in Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Natural Science, or related field, for an internship opportunity in our Central Pine Barrens office. This person will work within the Central Pine Barrens region of Long Island.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Conduct ecological monitoring activities, including forestry data sampling.
    • Conduct Southern Pine Beetle field data collection.
    • Perform invasive species inventories and removal.
    • Assist with planning and implementing ecological field projects such as ecological restoration, outdoor resource enhancement, erosion control, park improvements, and vegetation inventories.
    • Perform related activities and miscellaneous clerical support as needed.
    • Carrying out physical work activities associated with all assigned duties.

    Requirements:

    • Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, majoring in Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Natural Science, or related field.
    • Ability to perform physical work in the field, sometimes in harsh conditions.
    • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficient in MS Office.
    • Must be a Suffolk County resident and possess a valid driver’s license.

    This is a paid internship and employment will begin in June 2018 and continue through mid-August 2018. Work hours to be determined with a maximum of 28 hours per week.
