    The Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is inviting applications for a paid position for a Public Relations summer intern. This is an excellent learning opportunity for student seeking a future career in corporate communications, publicity and public relations.

    The responsibilities of this position will include:

    • Writing: drafting web stories, news releases, media advisories, social media posts, pitches, internal communications, etc.
    • Working with faculty and students to develop content: events, research, etc.
    • Generating media lists: research specific journalists and media outlets. This responsibility will also include use of targeting software to build/update media lists and to develop tailored pitches and pitching profiles.
    • News tracking: monitoring Tepper School news coverage and creating reports for wide distribution including faculty, staff, alumni, etc.
    • Covering events: attending presentations, lectures, competitions or special events and sharing on social media.
    • Pitching media: drafting media pitches and working with the media relations team to identify and pitch press.
    • General activities: assist website team, internal outlets, social media and collateral to support strategic priorities and communications team.

    Qualifications required:

    • Currently enrolled in college and studying communications, journalism or public relations.
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
    • Multimedia skills preferred; proficient in the use of social media, Photoshop and MS Office applications.
    • Positive attitude and ability to work well with others and as a member of a team.

    Beginning mid-May with some flexibility; this is a fixed-term position.

    Locations: Split time between CMU Oakland campus and Tepper marketing office at 6 PPG Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 until mid-July. Following July, time will be spent weekly on the CMU campus: 5000 Forbes Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

    Hours: Standard hours for this position are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday- Friday. However, the PR intern may be required to assist with events that require work during the evening and on weekends.
