    The Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is inviting applications for a paid position for a Social Media intern. This is an excellent learning opportunity for student seeking a future career in corporate communications, publicity and public relations.

    The responsibilities of this position will include:

    • General social media expertise: Tepper School’s channels include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. Understanding of Hootsuite, bitly, and other fundamentals like Facebook Live, Instagram stories, etc.
    • Developing content: working with the marketing team to develop a content calendar to promote events, news, stories, videos, etc. on social channels.
    • Capturing images: taking photos or gathering relevant visual assets. Each post requires an accompanying photo, logo, etc. so knowledge of tools such as Photoshop to edit and resize photos/graphics for social media posts required.
    • Analytics: basic understanding of how to analyze data and to run reports on reach, engagement.
    • Event coverage: attending presentations, lectures, competitions or special events to write or post to social media.
    • Writing: working with marketing department and other key stakeholders to write web stories (750 words), news releases, media advisories, various internal communications etc.
    • General duties to support the school and communications team.

    Qualifications required:

    • Currently enrolled in college and studying communications, journalism or public relations.
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
    • Multimedia skills preferred; proficient in the use of social media, Photoshop, Hootsuite and MS Office applications.
    • Positive attitude and ability to work well with others and as a member of a team.
    • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.

    Beginning mid-April with some flexibility; this is a fixed term position.

    Locations: Time split between 6 PPG Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 and CMU’s Oakland campus. In July, we will move to new Tepper Quad in Oakland: 5000 Forbes Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

    Hours: Standard hours for this position are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday- Friday. However, the Social Media intern may be required to assist with events that require work during the evening and on weekends.
