  • Oculus Research is looking for an intern to help us to invent technologies for interacting with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) devices. You will explore ways we can interact in AR/VR using a variety of sensor streams coming from input devices, cameras and physiological signals. Your research will involve the development of novel interaction techniques and/or input devices, as well as evaluations of how specific engineering choices impact the user experience. You will work with world-leading collaborators and mentors in the AR/VR & HCI fields.

    Our internship is twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

    Responsibilities:

    • Plan and execute cutting-edge research to advance AR/VR interaction with techniques that are tolerant to input noise, combine multiple modalities, or enable novel interaction capabilities.
    • Collaborate with other researchers, engineers, and user experience researchers to prototype hardware and software solutions, and run experiments to advance the project.
    • Work with leading academic researchers in the HCI field. The work should result in publishable research that appears in top-tier journals or at leading international conferences in the HCI field.

    Mininum Qualifications:

    • PhD candidate in computer science, human-computer interaction, electrical engineering, or related field.
    • Excellent research skills involving defining problems, exploring solutions, and analyzing and presenting results.
    • At least one publication in an HCI-related conference or journal.
    • Solid implementation and programming skills (proficiency in C++/C#, Matlab, or Python).
    • Familiarity with HCI user evaluation methodologies.
    • Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
    • Able to obtain work authorization in the US in 2018.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with real-time 3D graphics and game engines (Unity or Unreal).
    • Familiarity with applying machine learning models to the real-time sensing problems.
    • Experience with sensor fusion, integrating electrical, inertial and/or optical sensors.
